I was setting up my new heli this afternoon and it sounded like the rotor speed was running a lot faster than my Belt. I got my digital tach (photo cell) out that I used for my planes to check rotor speed, I was in 2 blade mode and stayed away from the flybar paddles. When I checked rotor speed I got 3800 to 4000 rpm's (jump back outta the way). I was under incandescent lighting not fluorescent so I don't think I was getting any error from the lighting. Well I got my Belt out and checked it. The rotor head speed in normal mode was 3000 rpm's. This also seems too high. My rotor head speed calculator says that I should be at 2600 rpm max with a 150 tooth main gear, 11 tooth pinion and 3550 kv motor. I used 98% motor efficiency in the calculator. I did check the calibration of my tach with a fluorescent light as specified by the manufacturer and it was dead on.

Has anybody got any experience with taching their heli, and if so what did you get for rotor speed. Also any problems that you ran across. Are electric powered planes and helis an issue when taching.
