The Essential Buyers Guide

Things For Your Consideration????

The modern day market for remote controlled helicopters (RCH) is in a state of constant flux. This is due to the dense quantinty of new products available and the relative level of complexity and expense. This guide should help you to narrow down the options to best suit your skills, budget and experience.

One: Key to getting the most from your RCH is to make sure that it has a large and established user community. Heliguy.com is proud to offer a well developed and strongly supported forum community. This is where enthusiasts from across the world meet to discuss new developments and help one another with technical problems. With a well established RCH you can be sure that there will be a large database of questions and opinions.

Two: Easy and quick access to spares and upgrades. Without the necessary contact for quick replacements it can be a long and drawn out process between damaging your RCH and reapairing it. Qucik and efficient delivery can mean you are back out and flying within days and not weeks.

Three: Take time in considering what type of RCH is best suited to your circumstances. What spaces do you have easy access to in order to fly it? What is a realistic budget (not only in initial costs but also long term expenses through repairs and upgrades)? What is your RCH flight ability? Make sure your RCH choice is proportional to your skill (i.e. a complete beginner would be best off with a basic RCH with which to build expereince). Have you the expereince to construct your RCH from the frame up, if so it can add another level of complexity and reward! All of these are essentail questions to ask yourself before taking the plunge!

Four: Do your research. Make sure the RCH you are buying is from a well established brand and that it has a upgrade ability with future releases. Some manufacturers are willing to release new RCH's with isolated resources which result in stagnant products that are unable to adapt to the new technology as it becomes available. You will not find such products on Heliguy.com as we do extensive reasearch and testing into all of our choices before retailing them.

DEFINITIONS:

Fixed pitch (FP) helicopters have blades that remain at a fixed position (you can not alter their angle). Lift is achieved through power adjustment to the rotor head. They are simpler in design, they are easy to fix when damaged and therefore they are cheaper!

Collective pitch (CP) helicopters have an additional level of control through adjusting the angle of the blades. Resulting in an ability to fly within three dimensions. This creates a more agile machine but it also means they are harder to repair, more difficult to fly and ultimately more expensive!

Ready to Fly (RTF) packages are RCH's that arrive complete and 'ready to fly' there is no need for any additional (though most will require AA batterys for the transmitter) purchases or installations such as gyroscopes or receivers. These packages are minimum fuss and ideal for beginners unsure of the mechanics of RCH's.

Almost Ready to Fly (ARF) packages are RCH's that are incomplete and require additional components in order to fly. Some are 'bare bones' meaning that only the frame is supplied whilst others may include elcetronics but they amy not be installed. Be sure to read the full description and if you are still unsure feel free to ask via our Live Support.
