I first started flying (crashing) in October 2007 with a Honey Bee King 2. I basically self taught myself to fly. The most important things to me when starting out are 1. A tuned helicopter - Unfortunately when starting your not going to know whether its you are the heli thats wrong. Looking back now i know my heli was not ready to fly as the belt was far to slack and caused the heli to spin. Well i didn’t know this at the time and spent ages trying to fly like this. I must have got through 3 sets of blades. I then snapped the tail boom and ordered a heading hold gyro. What a diffence. When i put it back together the heli took off and just hovered. I could’nt believe the difference. So number 2 - Get a heading hold gyro. Once i cracked hovering which was pretty easy after trying to control a spinning heli for a month i blew my engine. So i then…3 - upgraded to a 3900kw brushless motor and a 25amp esc. 4 - Buy a decent lipo, i messed around for months buying cheap ebay batteries. Don’t bother you get what you pay for. I bought a Kong power 2200mah and have not looked back. 5 - Carbon fiber blades and bling your heli up!
