Who am I?

Hi I’m Mark, I’m a thirty something year old, relocated Yorkshire-man, living in Northamptonshire in the UK.

How did I get into R/C helicopters?

At the age of 8 years old a family friend built a helicopter kit for a chap he was working for. I was fascinated by the engineering that went into such a “small” machine, and so the seed was planted! After too many years to mention I stumbled across Heliguy.com and persuaded my long suffering other half to let me buy a helicopter, and so a love affair was born!

The Evolution of a Fleet

I first bought a Trex 405 XL, complete with Hitec Eclipse 7 Transmitter and Electron 6 Receiver, after roughly 10 hours of build time it was ready to fly. I promptly crashed! Anyway, after about 2 weeks of baby hops I finally managed to hover without crashing, oh what a feeling!

Next up was a Trex 450 SE. I had no intention of buying a new helicopter when we (me and my dearest) went along to Sandown Model Symposium, which has now closed it’s doors for the last time, It was to buy a new frame for the XL. However, with such bargains to be had, it was rude not to buy a new helicopter!

Roughly 4 months then elapsed without buying another helicopter, but you guessed it, it was time for another show. This one was the 3D Masters event that is held in Northampton, just a few miles down the road so it would have been a crime not to go and watch the best flyers in the world competing. As is the norm with these kind of events, they are sponsored by various retailers, all of whom happen to have a stand selling their wares!

This time I walked away with not only a Century Swift 16 ARTF but a JR PCM9XII complete with 4 DS811 digital servos, and a RS 10DS receiver! Boy was that an expensive weekend!

Last of all, and most recently, came the Trex 600 MF Combo. This was actually a Christmas present, but due to wanting to create a build supplement, I was allowed to open it early and build it on the understanding that on Christmas Day, it would get a bow on it!

I should also add that with the addition of the Trex 600, my first helicopter, the Trex450 XL (which had by this time been upgraded to a full SE specification) was “retired” for spares (and also to make room!)
