The Trex is built

Well It was with great excitement that my parcel arrived as usual from heliguy…next day.

In all the excitment i hadn’t gave given much thought to the size of the box i was expecting and was shocked it was so small…Aligns packers are very good and on opening the box a quick check showed everything to be here.. even thread lock!450 S CF Kit

The first part of the build is the head, well I say build but the head is pre assembled all you need to do is fit the flybar and assemble all the links. The manual is very good and the page (7) on fitting the links is pretty much scale making getting the links right a doddle.

I did find that fitting the fly bar control and and control rods not that easy as they were tight. My first attempt i was a little soft and there was lots of lateral play..after squeezing things together the slop was gone. also spent a little time getting the two sides level or you will be unbalanced.

Moving on..Next is the frame, and again the manual is very good and in no time the two haves will be together and you feel like a dab hand at this building game!

frame

Next step is the landing gear and well, its very simple

gear

The tail assembly will also provide you with no issues as it’s pre built, all you do is fit it to the boom and it goes together with ease, although getting the belt through the boom is not easy, remember not to bend it too much and keep the twists out except the one 90 degrees need. Again the manual is very good.

tail and boom

Fitting the boom to the frame is again very simple. The two tail supports need to have their fixings glued to each end, to make sure that the angles are correct, first glue the fixings to the end that attach to the frame. When teh glue has set fit them to the frame and assemble the boom end (screw the boom fixings to the bracket).

Now apply the glue to the boom fixings and attach to the supports. This will ensure that the angle of the fixings ate correct for the bracket.

Once the fins are attached the boom is fitted tension the drive belt so that it will flex with a little pressure but not touch ( i didn’t take a photo..its not that easy to take a pic in a small space)

boom in

With that done its time to fit the head and the drive gear, this is all very easy however the collet at the bottom of the head was to low and had to be adjusted so that the gear could be fitted to the main shaft.

  main shaft

it was only about a 1 mm out but its enough to cause a problem.

that’s about it for the basic build. I will add a bit about the electronics install at a later date.

one last thing is soldering…a tip for soldering the connectors. Get yourself a wooden cloths peg. This will hold the connector leaving you both hands to get the job done.
