Lama V3 Modifications

April 4, 2007 Filed under: Pics — seouleast @ 2:38 pm

Hey all…. just got done building the Extreme Mod for my Lama. It looks a thousand times better than the old kit. Here are pics of before and after…..

I wrapped the Rx wire around the boom cause it won’t get any interference from the tail drive. Well…. there is no drive… nor a belt to cause any probs. Plus, she is only flown indoors.

Here is a pic of the new motor. As you can see, the tops are rebuilt so that the swash plate won’t be interfered with by the soldering on the old motors. There are also new clips for the soldering to be done on so that it isn’t so exposed.

TRex 600

This whopper of a helicopter is soon to come.  I am looking around here in Korea comparing prices on digital servos, either a Futaba 611 or a Logitech, which I hear is an up and comer in the gyro market, and an Rx. This heli will be very spendy as I will put only the high end electronics in her. This will take about a month or so…. pics and descriptions soon to come.

Honey Bee King II

I ordered this heli just for the fun of it. Well, aren’t they all bought for that? Anyways, I have heard some good things about this cheap little heli and wanted a spin on it. Since the Honey Bee FP was my first “real” heli, I wanted to see if this company could produce something just a bit better than the FP. I didn’t want a Belt as it would cost me as much as my GL 450 with a basic setup. That’s if I upgraded the Belt.

Well, much to my delight, the King II flies great for the price I paid for it. The parts are cheap but the setup is still a pain. Less so now since I know how to set my pitch and all the other little things needed to make it fly.

I really enjoy flying this heli but when there is a bit of wind, I let it sleep. One day, I am going to take it flying when there IS some wind just to see what its limits are. I have upgraded the landing skids and will proceed to upgrade the motor and the ESC in about a month when I finally have Sundays free of work.

Here is the King II compared to the size of my hand.

Here is one of the King II without the canopy. Not bad for a cheap heli!

GL 450

These are pics of my GL 450. It is just like a Trex 450 without the high cost. It has a sturdier frame and all the spares as well as the upgrades are identical to the Trex 450. It has a growing fan base here in Korea and it seems to be attracting more and more Trex owners to purchase its parts. Most just keep the Trex canopy for the image. Since the Align company was first to stomp its feet here, the die hard fans won’t tell you that they have GL parts on their helis! ;-)

I love this beautiful piece of machinery. Of all the helis made, I think that the 450’s have what it takes. Some like it bigger, but I believe that the designers have found the happy medium all designers look for. I know that I will have many more helis to add to my fleet, but this one is and will be my favorite.

As you can see from the insides, it is a TRex! Without the price, that is! :-)

Here is a shot of my GL 450 with my son. Look how big it is! Or how small he is!

Here are pics with a red canopy.
