Whatever you use your drone for there is always one constant, a need for effective cover against damage or software issues. Accidents will happen and technology can never be 100% issue free so it's a load off your mind to know your equipment is guaranteed by a company who knows it inside and out.

Unsurprisingly, DJI offers their own version of coverage (two as it happens) in the form of DJI Care and DJI Care Refresh. These are solid coverage choices but you need to be careful to read the Ts & Cs as there are a few surprises lurking beneath the promises of comprehensive service. It's always best to look at all the available options, including our very own Heliguy Crash Cover service. With no hidden fees and less small print than DJI's official coverage, you also benefit from dedicated UK-based service from a team of customer support professionals and an in-house tech team. But, in the end, you need to choose what is the best option for you.

DJI CARE

DJI Care is a service plan created to cover damage to your DJI aircraft, gimbal or camera sustained during normal use. If, during your DJI Care cover period, accidental damage occurs during normal use; your repair fees and related costs will be covered by DJI. However, there are exceptions which we will explain below.

According to their page on the service, DJI Care offers the following benefits:

  • Repairs by DJI's Engineers: DJI Care provides repair services via their own technicians and all DJI Care customers receive priority service.

  • Coverage Amounts Based on Drone Value: You receive a coverage amount equal to the price of your aircraft within the duration of your DJI Care period. However, market prices may vary from the coverage of DJI Care.

  • Unlimited Repairs (Up to the Value of the Aircraft): There is no limit to the number of times your aircraft can be repaired, provided the coverage amount is not exceeded.

  • Zero Deductibles: There are no deductibles for DJI Care. Your aircraft will always be repaired for free as long as repair costs and aircraft conditions satisfy DJI Care's requirements.

  • Replacement of Severely Damaged Aircraft: If your coverage amount is sufficient, a brand new aircraft will be provided if the covered unit is damaged beyond repair.

  • Shipping Covered by DJI Care: If you are in the region in which you purchased your DJI Care, shipping costs will be covered by DJI and will not affect your DJI Care coverage.

DJI stipulates that Care is only valid on ‘brand-new and unactivated products’ and must be added to their aircraft within 48 hours of purchase.

I. Coverage

During DJI Care's period of validity, if damage occurs accidentally under normal use, the repair fees and related costs incurred will be undertaken by DJI according to this agreement, as follows: For damage to aircraft, gimbal or camera due to dropping, squeezing or crashing caused by operator error or other accidents, DJI will offer free repairs if the equipment is sent to us within the period of validity.

II. Exclusions

This plan does not cover:

  1. Lost or partially lost aircraft and accessories.

  2. Stolen or abandoned aircraft and accessories.

  3. Damage caused by flight under unsuitable flight conditions.

  4. Any repair fees resulting from or following water damage.

  5. Repair fees for battery, propellers, remote controller or other accessories.

  6. Deliberate losses.

  7. Abrasions and shell damage that do not affect the performance of the aircraft.

  8. Direct or indirect losses caused by force majeure.

  9. Repair requests for damage incurred outside the period of validity.

  10. Indirect loss and/or anticipated profit in any form.

  11. Extra fees resulting from technical enhancements or performance improvements.

  12. Personal injury and/or property loss to the customer or any other people caused by the aircraft.

  13. Any legal fees related to DJI Care’s warranty coverage.

III. Coverage Amount

The coverage amount is the retail price of the equipment at the time of purchase (not the promotion price, price of extra accessories not included). If the retail price differs from the coverage amount shown on the DJI Care product page, the coverage amount shown on the DJI Care product page at the time of purchase, namely the coverage amount noted in the Service Agreement sent to you, shall prevail.

IV. Period of Validity of DJI Care

DJI Care is valid for one year. If you buy DJI Care separately (i.e. after purchasing the aircraft), the period of validity begins from the date of purchase. If you buy DJI Care with a new aircraft, the period of validity begins two days after the aircraft is shipped. Please refer to the period of validity noted on your DJI Care Service Agreement for details.

V. Repair Process

1. When damage to your DJI aircraft occurs and you are within DJI Care's coverage, please contact DJI Support via www.dji.com/support, TEL and ONLINE SUPPORT are preferred. 2. Send the damaged DJI aircraft to a DJI designated repair centre under the instruction of DJI technical support staff. 3. If damage to your DJI aircraft occurs, contact DJI first to fill a report for higher quality support.

VI. Termination of DJI Care

DJI Care will be terminated under any one of the following conditions: 1. The service has expired; 2. Your DJI aircraft was not repaired by DJI designated repair centres; 3. The coverage amount of the DJI Care for your aircraft has run out; 4. If the customer is found to have broken a DJI Care covered aircraft on purpose, the service will be terminated automatically and DJI will not offer a refund. If a customer is found to be causing accidents for financial gain, DJI reserves the right to take legal action.

VII. Postage

There are no hidden fees when using DJI Care. After your purchase of the service, the cost of two-way postage for customers within DJI Care service areas will be covered by DJI. In other areas, these costs and any associated customer's duties are at the customer's expense. In all areas, the customs fees are at the customer's expense.

VIII. Return and Transfer of DJI Care

1. DJI Care can be cancelled upon return of the aircraft purchased, according to DJI refund policies; 2. DJI Care cannot be cancelled without returning the aircraft purchased; 3. DJI Care cannot be transferred after purchase.

DJI Care: Key Things to Consider

If you don't have the time to dig into a mind-numbing list of Terms & Conditions, fear not! We've done it for you. Here is what you should be considering before signing up to DJI Care:

  • If you take a look in the Exclusions section, you can see that DJI refuse to undertake any repair fees resulting from or following water damage (fresh or salt).

  • They will refuse coverage if the 'damage caused by flight under unsuitable flight conditions' which is vaguely worded and could leave you out of pocket for an incident that isn't your fault.

  • Customer service from DJI has undoubtedly improved since their early days of operation - however, there is still a fair way to go before they can offer the same level of dedicated support Heliguy provides on a daily basis.


DJI CARE REFRESH

DJI describe their Refresh service as 'an effective, comprehensive warranty for your product, offering you greater peace of mind every time you fly'. Let's take a closer look at what you're actually getting by signing up with them. care-refresh.png

If damage occurs accidentally to your product under normal use, DJI Care Refresh offers up to two replacement units for a small additional charge each time the service is requested. For the Mavic Pro, the aircraft, gimbal, camera, battery and propellers can be replaced. For the Phantom 4 Pro, the aircraft, gimbal, camera and propellers can be replaced. For the Inspire 2, the aircraft and propellers can be replaced. For the Zenmuse X4S and X5S, the gimbal and camera can be replaced.

II. Exclusions

DJI Care Refresh does not cover the following:

  1. Lost or partially lost aircraft, gimbal or accessories.

  2. Stolen, forgotten, or abandoned products.

  3. Damage caused by flight under unsuitable conditions.

  4. Remote controller or battery of Inspire 2 and Phantom 4 Pro, and modification accessories.

  5. Deliberate losses.

  6. Abrasions and shell damage that do not affect the performance of the product.

  7. Direct or indirect losses caused by force majeure.

  8. Replacement requests for damage incurred outside the period of validity.

  9. Extra fees resulting from technical enhancements or performance improvements.

  10. Damage resulting from modifications that are not in accordance with manual recommendations, or the use of incompatible batteries and charger.

  11. Damage resulting from the use of third-party accessories, batteries or software.

III. Replacement Service

DJI Care Refresh includes two replacements. If you claim for replacement of your product twice, DJI shall be considered to have fully executed the DJI Care Refresh service. The DJI Care Refresh service will then be terminated.After replacement, the original product becomes DJI's property and the replacement product is your property, with coverage effective for the remaining period of the Plan.

IV. Period of Validity of DJI Care Refresh

DJI Care Refresh is valid for 12 months. If you purchase a product with DJI Care Refresh on the official DJI website, it shall take effect on the third day after the date of shipment. If you buy DJI Care Refresh separately on the official DJI website or via other channels, it shall be effective from the date of the service agreement.

V. Replacement Process

  1. If damage to your DJI product occurs and you are within DJI Care Refresh coverage, contact DJI Support via http://www.dji.com/support, TEL and ONLINE SUPPORT are preferred.

  2. Send your product (including the aircraft, gimbal, propellers and battery) based on the DJI Care Refresh warranty plan you have purchased to a DJI designated repair center under the instruction of DJI Support.

- If you purchase DJI Care Refresh (Inspire 2), send the aircraft and propellers.- If you purchase DJI Care Refresh (X4S/X5S), send X4S or X5S gimbal.- If you purchase DJI Care Refresh (Phantom 4 Pro), send the aircraft, gimbal, camera and propellers.- If you purchase DJI Care Refresh (Mavic Pro), send the aircraft, gimbal, camera, propellers and battery.- If you do not send the required part(s), DJI may require you to send it (them) again or decline your replacement request.3) DJI will send you the quotation of repair fees after it determines that the product is covered under DJI Care Refresh, you will receive the quotation of charge for the replacement service. After your payment has been confirmed, the replaced product will be shipped to you. Or you can choose to pay the cost of repair to repair your product.

VI. Termination of DJI Care Refresh

DJI Care Refresh will be terminated without notice in the following situations:

  1. The service has expired.

  2. Your DJI product was repaired by a non-official DJI repair center.

  3. DJI Care Refresh includes two replacements. If you claim for replacement of your product twice, DJI shall be considered to have fully executed the DJI Care Refresh service. The DJI Care Refresh service will then be terminated.

  4. If the customer is found to have broken a DJI Care Refresh covered product on purpose, the service will be terminated automatically, and DJI will not offer a refund. If a customer is found to be causing accidents for financial gain, DJI reserves the right to take legal action.

VII. Replacement Fee

There are no hidden charges for the replacement service. After you purchase DJI Care Refresh, you will receive prioritised service. Each time the replacement service is requested, subject to your purchase region.

In NA region (US & Canada):- For DJI Care Refresh (Mavic Pro), the first time replacement fee is $79, the second time replacement fee is $129.- For DJI Care Refresh (Inspire 2), the first time replacement fee is $209, the second time replacement fee is $329.- For DJI Care Refresh (X4S), the first time replacement fee is $49, the second time replacement fee is $69.- For DJI Care Refresh (X5S), the first time replacement fee is $149, the second time replacement fee is $219.- For DJI Care Refresh (Phantom 4 Pro), the first time replacement fee is $99, the second time replacement fee is $149.

In the EU region (27 countries):- For DJI Care Refresh (Mavic Pro), the first time replacement fee is €99, the second time replacement fee is €139.- For DJI Care Refresh (Inspire 2), the first time replacement fee is €239, the second time replacement fee is €379.- For DJI Care Refresh (X4S), the first time replacement fee is €59, the second time replacement fee is €89.- For DJI Care Refresh (X5S), the first time replacement fee is €179, the second time replacement fee is €269.- For DJI Care Refresh (Phantom 4 Pro), the first time replacement fee is €139, the second time replacement fee is €209.

In the UK:- For DJI Care Refresh (Mavic Pro), the first time replacement fee is£79, the second time replacement fee is £129.- For DJI Care Refresh (Inspire 2), the first time replacement fee is £219, the second time replacement fee is £339.- For DJI Care Refresh (X4S), the first time replacement fee is £49, the second time replacement fee is £79.- For DJI Care Refresh (X5S), the first time replacement fee is £159, the second time replacement fee is £239.- For DJI Care Refresh (Phantom 4 Pro), the first time replacement fee is £129, the second time replacement fee is £189.

In the AU region:- For DJI Care Refresh (Mavic Pro), the first time replacement fee is AUD $139, the second time replacement fee is AUD $199.- For DJI Care Refresh (Inspire 2), the first time replacement fee is AUD $369, the second time replacement fee is AUD $579.- For DJI Care Refresh (X4S), the first time replacement fee is AUD $79, the second time replacement fee is AUD $119.- For DJI Care Refresh (X5S), the first time replacement fee is AUD $269, the second time replacement fee is AUD $399.- For DJI Care Refresh (Phantom 4 Pro), the first time replacement fee is AUD $209, the second time replacement fee is AUD $319.

VIII. Return and Transfer of DJI Care Refresh

  1. DJI Care Refresh can be cancelled upon return of the product purchased, according to DJI refund policies.

  2. DJI Care Refresh cannot be cancelled without returning the product purchased.

  3. DJI Care Refresh cannot be transferred after purchase.

IX. Personal Information

You agree to provide DJI with your personal information, including but not limited to your name, email address, address, phone number, fax number and identity number for us to provide you with a better service. By applying for DJI Care Refresh, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and agree with the Privacy Policy as shown at http://www.dji.com/policy. Please do NOT send SD cards to DJI. DJI shall not be responsible for any damage or loss to the data or personal information stored or saved in your product.

 

DJI Care Refresh: Key Things To Consider

For those of you too busy to read through an exhaustive list of dull Ts & Cs, here is a list of things to bear in mind when considering signing up to DJI Care Refresh:

  • A more recent version of DJI Care, Refresh focuses on their newer aircraft i.e. Phantom 4 Pro, Inspire 2 and Mavic Pro which leaves those looking to purchase an older model out of luck.

  • Refresh does offer aircraft replacement straight from the manufacturers themselves, however, there are additional fees involved in this on top of your initial sign up fee. Make sure you check carefully before signing up so you're not caught out further down the line.

  • Customer service from DJI has undoubtedly improved since their early days of operation - however, there is still a fair way to go before they can offer the same level of dedicated support Heliguy provides on a daily basis.

Our Crash Cover is a comprehensive service that ensures you're covered from any damage to your drone. As long as either of the following don't apply you're eligible for servicing up to the level of your coverage plan:

  • Saltwater intake
