Heliguy-Introducing_DJI_Goggles_Racing_Edition-Blog_Header-optimized-250x131.png Introducing the DJI Goggles Racing Edition DJI have just released a new version of their popular Goggles, the DJI Goggles Racing Edition (RE). With a new colour and design, and a lot more functionality, the Goggles RE are made for FPV drone racing without boundaries. The Goggles RE are compatible with the new OcuSync video transmission module and a high-performance camera module. This results in digital video transmission with a latency as low as 50ms as well as analogue. The Goggles can be used with a range of DJI drones or the camera can be mounted on a huge number of third-party vehicles and aircraft. The Goggles RE feature the same dual 1080p HD screens as the original Goggles and can still be used with a HDMI input for a unique viewing experience These new Goggles will give you a FPV for racing unlike any other. Keep reading for the full details of the Goggles RE. dji-goggles-racing-edition-p4785-8112_medium-250x250.jpg DJI Goggles RE

OcuSync Video Transmission Module

An OcuSync Video Transmission Module gives a dual-band transmission system in 2.4 and 5.8 GHz. This results in latency as low as 50ms and a maximum control range of 7km in the correct conditions. HD transmission at 1280x960 is available and an automatic Frequency-Hopping Spread Spectrum transmission which will switch between channels for an unparalleled racing experience. Choose from 12 low-interference transmission channels for increased stability and reliability even with multiple aircraft in the sky. Two pairs of Goggles RE can be used simultaneously for a pilot and spectator setup or, the Goggles can be used with a second controller to see the pilot’s FPV. googles-featured-image-800x377-250x118.jpg DJI Goggles RE

Camera Module

The OcuSync camera module has a 1/3” image sensor for high-resolution video transmission. This provides better video transmission than the traditional analogue FPV solutions currently available. A 148° FOV coupled with a low-distortion lens provides users with a wide yet natural looking view. A global shutter is also available to reduce the effect of a rolling shutter caused by high-frequency vibration which is common at high speeds. Pilots are also able to record their flights for later analysis and sharing in multiple video formats. Unfortunately, pictures cannot be taken directly with the camera, however, a built-in screenshot function is available. Goggles-Racing-17-250x167.jpg DJI Goggles RE

Complete Control

Users of the Goggles RE can control flight settings, the gimbal and flight data, enhancing controls required for drone racing. The Goggles can be connected to either a DJI aircraft or a third-party controller due to their bottom-up processing system. The aircraft can then be controlled whilst maintaining a FPV. The Goggles RE also feature an on-screen display. This shows vital flight information for FPV racing including transmission resolution, battery level and aircraft signal quality. Like with the original DJI Goggles, the gimbal can be controlled in the Head Tracking Mode allowing huge levels of control over the aircraft. dji-goggles-racing-edition-p4785-8116_medium-250x250.jpg DJI Goggles RE

 Compatibility

The Goggles RE are fully compatible with the DJI Spark, Mavic Pro, Inspire 2 and Phantom 4 Series. They can also be used with a wide range of third-party controllers including the following flight controllers: KISS, F3, F4, and Naze, and remote controllers X9D (FrSky), DEVO 10 (Walkera), T8FG (Futaba), T14SG (Futaba), WTF09sll (WFLY), and AT9S (RadioLink). Three pairs of external antennas are also available for flexibility with different aircraft and circumstances. These are: Pagoda – A circularly polarised antenna which works best in 5.8 GHz. Transmission can be switched from digital to analogue. Cylindrical – Also a circularly polarised antenna, however, operate in both 2.4 and 5.8 GHz. Ideal for long-range transmission. Dipole – A linearly polarised antenna, with access to 2.4 5.8 GHz. Lightweight in design with an optimised performance over a short range. dji-goggles-racing-edition-p4785-8113_medium-250x250.jpg DJI Goggles RE

Goggle Design

The Goggles RE have an all-new metallic matte black colouring with an internal red leather padding made for user comfort. A new facial pad and headband offer better cover from light and an improved fit. These add up to a greatly enhanced the viewing experience with reduced interference. Like the original Goggles, the Goggles RE feature a maximum battery life of six hours, giving extensive time for drone use and viewing media. Goggles-Racing-19-1-1-250x167.jpg DJI Goggles RE

Summary

The new DJI Goggles Racing Edition are a great new product iteration from DJI. They’ve built on the performance and popularity of the original Goggles and hugely improved flexibility and functionality. The new design has a great aesthetic and seems to have addressed the main flaw of the original Goggles and their sometimes-awkward fit. Comfort while using has been increased by the cushioned leather and cutting down on external light will develop the immersive experience. Additional video formats can be viewed with the Goggles RE. MP4, MOV, AVI and MKV media formats can be accessed as well as 6K 360° panoramas. This increases user flexibility with media viewing and again, develops the overall experience with the Goggles RE. As the Goggles can be used with third-party aircraft, it’s likely that DJI will break into the FPV drone racing industry without releasing a dedicated racing drone. Even with more of DJI’s traditional applications, the new Goggles will be a huge benefit and are likely to be popular.
