DJI Training: Jack Bishop - Heliguy Technician
Days 1 and 2
We were tasked with the most challenging aircraft to disassemble, the DJI Inspire 2. Fortunately, DJI has designed the Inspire 2 to be a completely serviceable aircraft, making every component available to authorised repair centres. The Inspire 2 training took up the majority of the first week, three days in total were spent completely stripping down the aircraft to component form, rebuilding and assessing customer aircraft that had been sent it. We were marked on the quality of our Inspire 2 rebuild and the accuracy of the assessment portion of the exam.
Day 3
We were tasked with assessing three Inspire 2 aircraft that had been sent to DJI for repair. The afternoon of day 3 was time to relax, test flight time, assessing whether our rebuilt aircraft had survived their ordeal. The relief of finally taking off was a weight off my shoulders; also there’s nothing more awe inspiring than flying alongside six other Inspire 2 aircraft in close formation.
Day 4
Then it was time to turn our attention to the Mavic Pro, my favourite aircraft in DJI’s line up. I’ve built and flown some of the largest most expensive equipment money can buy and yet, for me, nothing is more exciting than the Mavic. The Mavic Pro, fortunately, is a more straightforward aircraft to repair despite its much smaller size. Although there is plenty of awkward tweezer work and frustrating connectors to contend with it was a total breeze compared to the Inspire 2.
Day 5
We then had a day to test our Mavic Pro aircraft, making sure that we'd performed the repairs correctly and applied everything that we learned the previous day. It's also worth adding that there are few things cooler than a fleet of synchronised Mavics heading your way, they're great looking aircraft and perform beautifully as well.
Days 6 and 7
The final two days were taken up learning about the process of repairing the DJI Phantom 4 Pro. Due to its similarity to its predecessor, the Phantom 4, this was the easiest process yet and before we knew it we were back out to conduct test flights on these impressive quadcopters. Once all of the flight tests and repair work of the course was complete there was only one thing left to do, it was all you can eat rib night at the local bar, and that topped off a fantastic 11 days in Holland!
The Location
Due to the timings of the course, I had a weekend to explore the city of Rotterdam, which is definitely a city where you have to rent a bicycle to get around. Fortunately, the Netherlands treats cyclists well so I felt right at home. I recommend visiting the Photography Museum and the food market or Markthal Rotterdam for something more interesting to eat.
