Ofqual Level 5 UAS Operations Manager Course
Driving-up drone industry standards
The Level 5 Award drives up industry standards and enables accountable managers to confidently oversee robust, safe and effective drone operations.
It is designed to raise industry standards and facilitate safe, compliant, and successful UAS operations.
heliguy™ worked with TQUK to build the syllabus. It is different to the former Level 5 Award for Chief Pilots, with learning outcomes more suited to UAS operations management.
Topics covered include:
UAS Operations Manager responsibilities, including hazard and safety management and operational oversight.
Flight safety meetings.
Aircraft maintenance and flight logs.
Auditing processes.
The Level 5 Award is a Regulated Qualification: The equivalent to a foundation degree and is recognised as a professional management qualification.
How The Course Is Delivered
Face-to-face, residential-style learning
The Level 5 drone pilot qualification is delivered in-person by the heliguy™ in-house drone training team.
The course duration is five days and takes place at the new heliguy™ drone training centre at heliguy™ HQ, close to Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK. The new training centre provides a dedicated learning environment, featuring a classroom space with large-screen television, computer suite, kitchen facilities, and instructor offices.
On completion of the course, candidates retrospectively submit workbooks for assessment.
The recreational-style face-to-face training is best suited to the comprehensive nature of the Level 5 syllabus and provides candidates with networking opportunities.
Course Testimonials
How Level 5 Benefits Drone Programmes
heliguy™ has delivered the Level 5 Award to organisations such as London Fire Brigade, North Wales Police, Durham Constabulary, Network Rail, the Environment Agency, and West Midlands Ambulance Service Hazardous Area Response Team (WMAS HART).
Environment Agency Drone Pilot Andy Watkins: "The Level 5 UAS Operations Manager course was invaluable, as part of the organisation’s commitment to enhanced operational standards and flight safety. It highlighted the importance of having strong policies and procedures in place."
Dale Wallis, who heads the UAS division of WMAS HART, said: "The course provided a good insight into the management process and pilot requirements to run an effective UAS operation. It strengthened my knowledge of UAS following on from the GVC, as part of my move from pilot to accountable manager."
Ofqual Level 5 Award: A Regulated Qualification
Enhanced personal development in the UAS industry
An approved and independently audited professional qualification: the Level 5 Award is a Regulated Qualification. This differs from the standard GVC course, which is an Unregulated Qualification.
The Regulated Qualification Framework (RQF) is the national credit transfer scheme of education qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Learners are awarded credits when achieving regulated qualifications, which may be transferable to other qualifications. They may also be transferable across the continent.
The Level 5 Course consists of 45 hours Total Qualification Time (TQT), equating to 5 credits.
The course is eligible for Enhanced Learning Credits (80% costs covered by ELC, 20% by the learner).
